Education System: 12 + 4 + 2

After 12th a student can opt for 2 years Diploma or 3 years Advance Diploma courses offered by Government (SDS) colleges or can opt for 4 years Bachelor degree courses offered by University.

Numbers of course offered by Colleges have Co-op terms which allow students to gain hands on experience in relevant field.

After completion of 3 years Bachelor Degree from India students can pursue 1 year Graduate Diploma Degree.

After Completion of 4 years Bachelor Degree students can pursue 1 year of Graduate/ Postgraduate Diploma or 2 years of Master Degree.

Most of Master Degree courses in Canada are research based and are highly competitive.

Students will need to appear for IELTS and score as under in order to get eligible for admission:
Diploma : Overall 6.0 bands with no less than 6.0 in any module
Graduate Diploma : Overall 6.5 bands with no less than 6.0 in any module
Master Degree : 7.0 bands minimum.

Living and food expenses for one year is CAD 10,000, which needs to be deposited as GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate) with Scotia Bank, Canada and is refunded back to student in installments by end of one year.
  • In general with study student can work part time i.e. 20 hours per week. During vacation as well as during Co-op terms students can work full time.
  • Dependents of students are allowed to work fulltime / part time after getting necessary permission to work in Canada.
  • Students need to study at least 2 years to be eligible for 3 years open work permit.
  • If the course duration is less than 2 years, then students get work permit equal to their course duration.
FAQ's

You should have a valid IELTS score, and a valid passport to apply under the SDS program. You need 6 bands each in IELTS in academic module or other exams as acceptable by IRCC. You also need to prove that you have already paid 1 year of tuition Fees, Living and Food (GIC) and have adequate funds to pay your remaining tuition fee and living expenses along with proof that you have a clean background and no criminal record.

Students require a minimum of 6 overall bands in the IELTS Exam (Academic module) with no band less than 6 in any module to apply under SDS program, for certain courses requirements may vary from 6.5 (no less than 6) or 7 (no less than 6.5) bands.

For Visa under SDS category IELTS is required however for admission and visa under non-SDS category PTE and TOEFL are accepted.

Some universities in Canada accept a maximum of 5 backlogs, Backlogs should not exceed to more than 2 per year for the last education duration- i.e. for a graduate student with 3 years of study, and the maximum backlogs are 6.

Canadian government-funded institutes like public colleges are affordable and pocket-friendly options for students who wish to study in Canada. The average tuition fee for public colleges in Canada is 16,000-20,000/year CAD for Diploma and PG Diploma courses. Universities range from 30,000-50,000 CAD/year.
